Lucine’s Kid Friendly Recs
Back
Galveston is a great place to visit with kids of all ages. Whenever I travel I'm always looking for advice on what to do with my kids that preferably combines a mix of obvious stops and off the beaten path activities. As a mother of four children ages 10 and under living in Galveston, I can definitely lend some local advice on what to do and where to go with kids and even a few things to do if you get a few minutes to yourself. If you’re staying at Hotel Lucine these options are all a short walk or car ride away.
I’m sure you already know about Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn so I’ll dive into more local recommendations for you mommas who want some different options.
- Galveston Children's Museum. This is an absolute gem of a spot catering to kids 10 and under. Located in the historical Moody Mansion on Broadway there are all kinds of interactive and STEAM activities. Its a great way to spend 1-2 hours and definitely check their website for daily and weekly camp options in case you want to drop the kids and have some time to yourself.
- Galveston Art Center. This spot is located on Galveston Historic Strand street and is a great way to spend an hour chalk full of contemporary art. The perfect size cultural pit stop for kids of all ages and always featuring three exhibits from incredible artists around the country. GAC offers kid friendly programming and classes for children on a regular basis including summer Friday drop in camps and parents night out opportunities throughout the year. They are organizers of the monthly Galveston Art Walk and feature artist talks and fun pop ups each month.
- Sandcastle Lessons. This is a perfect way to up your day at the beach and keep the kids occupied with an engineering twist. Book a session with Sandy Feet Sandcastle Service for an activity the whole family can enjoy.
- Adoue Park: This park is a perfect spot for little ones to get out some energy either on the newly renovated play equipment or basketball courts. There's plenty of space to run around and if time permits take a walk through the gorgeous East End historical neighborhood filled with beautifully renovated Victorian homes.
- Dolphin Tour: Hear me out. This one sounds a little on the nose, but we have gone several times without kids and no fail we've seen several dolphins every time. Great way to kill an hour and see the port side of Galveston.
- La Kings Confectionary: Obviously the kids will love it because there’s sugar involved, but the historical building and incredible hand made confectionaries make it a must do. Watch them pull salt water taffy using original methods and make sure to take some back to friends and family. Don’t skip the malt ice cream either it’s incredible!
